BSA Troop 9110

We are a scouting troop with a 60-year history in Mason County. We offer outdoor and leadership training as well as a wide range of recreation opportunities for boys ages 11-18. Camping, hiking, outdoor cooking, canoeing and kayaking are just some of the things the troop does together. These boys also participate in community service projects and learn many other important life skills such as emergency preparedness, first aid and lifesaving.

Joined OysterFest in I believe since at least 2006, but it could have been earlier.

How does your organization use the funds raised in Mason County?

We are able to offer all of the activities at no or very little cost to our scouting families. A big portion of our budget goes to help cover the cost of summer camp, including transportation to and from the camp. Summer camp is a great opportunity for scouts to focus on merit badges they are interested in, or required to advance in their rank achievements. Summer camps also give scouts the opportunity to participate in activities that are harder to offer at a local level such as oceanography, blacksmithing skills and rock climbing. Funds are also used to provide food and equipment for campouts, awards and leadership training for both adult leaders and the youth scout leaders.

What is your Favorite OysterFest group memory?

Singing Oyster-themed songs while shucking over 16,000 oysters in one weekend!

What does being part of OysterFest mean to you?

Oysterfest is an excellent opportunity to meet the members of our community and showcase a great bunch of scouts and their families working hard to earn funds to support the activities they want to do for the rest of the year. Not to mention cooking some really great oysters! We are so grateful that Skookum Rotary works hard to provide a safe and secure environment for the community, out of town guests and all the nonprofit groups and charitable organizations to come together and support one another in this way.
