Oyster Shucking Application

This contest, sponsored by Shelton Skookum Rotary Club Foundation of Shelton, Washington, is open to all adults.

The entry fee of $15.00 per shucker must accompany this completed form. Employers of shuckers are invited to sponsor their shucker for a contribution of $50.00 per shucker, which includes the $15.00 entry fee. Names of sponsors are publicized both at the OysterFest site and through the news media. If mailed, send completed entry form with fee to OysterFest, P.o. Box 849, Shelton, Washington 98584.

Entry form and fee should be received by OysterFest not later than September 30th. However, in the event a competitor is not able to send in the form by that date, the competitor should bring the completed form or fill one out at the event, with their entry fee and present it to the Chief Clerk. The Chief Clerk's office opens at 9:00 a.m. on both Saturday and Sunday. Competitors need to check in every day prior to the start of the competition. The competition usually starts at II :00 a.m., but an excess of competitors may require an additional heat. Competitors should check-in by 9:30 a.m.

Competitors may check-in after that time and will be accepted as space allows. Generally extra space is available but cannot be assured for late arriving competitors. Contestants select heat times as they sign in, so the earlier sign ins tend to get better heat times. Upon arriving at the Mason County Fairgrounds, the competitors should advise Gatekeepers that they are with the shucking competition and they will be allowed entry without charge. The Gatekeepers can point the competitor to the shucking competition area. The Fairground entrance is located on U.S. Hwy. 10 I, just North of Shelton. For information on motels in the area, if needed, contact the Shelton Chamber of Commerce at 360-426-2021.
