Things you need to know:

• Organizations are responsible for obtaining their temporary food establishment permits and food workers cards directly through the Mason County Department of Health Services. It may be necessary for individuals in your organization to attend the Food Worker Card Course provided by them. Please be sure to contact the Mason County Department of Health Services (427-9670) to verify the proper documentation you need to participate in OysterFest. Also, please note that we are asking you to identify the exact number of vendor and loading passes you will need during the days of the festival.

• You will be notified about a mandatory meeting in September. Your vendor and unloading passes will be given to you at that time.

• We really want to encourage food vendors to promote our seafood theme when selecting products to sell. Three years ago we introduced the People’s Choice Award that offered our customers the opportunity to tell us what they liked. We have had a terrific response. This year we encourage your organization to again think competitively so we make sure we all give our patrons a memorable OysterFest experience. This year we will give our second-ever prizes for the best decorated and themed booth. Start now and get the competitive edge and momentum moving.

• Small portions of product sell best. Do not try to serve a whole meal. Sell small portions of anexcellent product. Exhibits should communicate the nautical and aqua cultural nature of our South Puget Sound home. Hands on activities are encouraged at each booth to allow children, young and old, to be involved with your program. If you have any questions not covered in the enclosed material, or if you would like to explore new ideas, please feel free to contact me at 360-426-2411 or email toziers@hctc.com.

• Skookum Rotary members manage this event which helps fund the many causes we support. We hope our collective efforts will result in another entertaining and educational event that will bring families back year after year. OysterFest enables all of us to be more sensitive and effective stewards of the abundant marine resources that surround us.

Thank you for your participation,

Evan Tozier
